Woodstock GA’s FREE Concert Series Continues June 12

The Woodstock Summer Concert Series 13th Season continues this Friday, June 12 with The Great American Rock and Roll Revival Concert.  The concert starts at 7:30 in the City Park Downtown Woodstock.  It will be a fantastic evening for great music.  The concert features three groups, each with a special place in rock and roll history.  This free event provides residents a relaxing evening and fantastic entertainment.

According to the Woodstock Concert Series website performing are Damon as “The King”.  Damon Hendrick an Elvis Tribute Artist seems perfectly fitting for a Rock and Roll Revival.  Personally my all time favorite song is by Elvis so I am very excited.

Additionally performing is Atlanta’s Premier Classic Rock N Roll band Butch and The Buckheads. Featuring classics from the 50s, 60s, and 70s, Butch and The Buckheads will keep everyone movin and a shakin.  The bank has performed around the world from Japan to Germany and Saudi Arabia.  Those local Buckhead guys always knew what to do.

The third group performing at the concert is The Sock Hops.  This vocal group covers the top 40 songs of the 50s, 60s, and 70s.  You will have the chance to shag and twist to songs like The Lions Sleeps Tonight, Mustang Sally and Blue Moon.  That all sounds like great music to me.   Hope you come enjoy this Woodstock Ga event!

Woodstock GA Downtown Redevelopment – Moving Forward

There’s good news coming out of Woodstock GA with John Wieland Homes’ announcement that they are working with a local bank on more than 100 homesites to restart the building of homes and townhomes at Downtown Woodstock, a live, work and play community originally started by Hedgewood Properties.  According to the AJC, Wieland is anticipating the beginning of construction as soon as this summer.

Downtown Woodstock (the development) contains residential and commercial components.  The lots being negotiated were part of downtown Woodstock’s development envisioned by Hedgewood, one of metro Atlanta’s pioneers of new urbanism.  As part of the walkable development concept, the neighborhood provides easy walking access to a pool, “pocket parks”, walking trails and the conveniences of downtown’s restaurants and shops.   It’s unclear whether the Wieland takeover will include all of Hedgewood’s original plans on both the east and west sides of Main Street.  Our guess is that the lots are on the east side of Main Street, which was selling well until the recent housing downturn.

There were already other signs of downtown Woodstock’s resurgence in the commercial area.  Pure Taqueria opened a Woodstock restaurant and seems to be a resounding success, following in the footsteps of it’s sister restaurant in Alpharetta.  We ate at (and loved) Pure during the St Patty’s Streetfest in March when the entire downtown was covered with people enjoying the arts, crafts and music.  Additionally, Embers, a hot yoga facility, is expected to open in the retail portion of the five-story brick condominium built by Hedgewood.

We’ll keep an eye on the development and keep you posted as we learn more about this exciting news!
